Track season

Kyle & Emily are both running track at school. Kyle is running the mile and Emily 800 and the 800 leg of the medley relay. Both are doing very well and improving on their PRs. Keep up the great work!

That is Kyle 4th from the left as the 4 seed. Small but speedy.

Track season

Track season went by quickly this summer. Some seriously hot meets for the kids to power through. Kyle and Emily ran the mile all season. Emily improved her time each time. Kyle also improved his times as well, typically finishing first or second in his age bracket. And Aaron enjoyed running the shortest race out there, the 50.

State games

Kyle and Emily participated in the North Carolina State Games for track and field. It was a fun opportunity to extend their track season a little bit. Little did we know this meet was gigantic, meaning there were probably 1,000 kids competing and it would be a crazy long and insanely hot day. Nonetheless, they persevered and had fun.

They started the morning off with the turbo javelin. That was a morning event around 9am. Even then it was blazing hot. Probably 90+ without a cloud in the sky. Scorching. The mile run was later in the day, which turned out to be way later due to the sheer number of participants, many events and rain delay. So around 5 or 6pm they took to the track to run their mile. Emily had a tough time with the heat, but she went out there and finished in the blazing heat and a very difficult field of speedsters. Kyle also ran and it was the first time he had a starting gun for the start. He wasn't a fan of that at all, standing at the start line with his hands covering his ears. He ran a good race and tolerated the heat fairly well and came in 2nd overall with an insanely fast field.

Great job Kyle & Emily!!
And great job cheering on the kids, Aaron! He was a trooper throughout the day in the heat and taking a nap in the car (with the AC on) while we waited for the mile in the afternoon.

Track awards

And just like that, the track season is over. The kids had a great time and learned a lot about track and field. Emily constantly improved on her PR in the mile. Kyle remained undefeated in the mile and set his own PR. Great job Kyle & Em!

Kyle & Emily track and field

Kyle and Emily had a few more track meets. They had wanted to do the javelin in the first meet, but could only do 2 events so it was the mile and 800. For the rest of the season, they switched to the mile and javelin. And to clarify, the kids use what they call a "turbo javelin" which is basically a much smaller and soft javelin. Yea, could you imagine a bunch of 9 year olds running around with giant spears?!

Track season has started

Kyle and Emily decided to run track this season after having fun with running at school. In this first track meet, they both decided to run the mile and 800 meters. And both have started off to a successful track season. Kyle set the time to beat in both the mile and 800 for the boys. Em set a great time to work off of with each meet.
In the first lap. Kyle employs the "go out conservative" start and then just turns it on and gets stronger and stronger as the race goes on.
