Hot chocolate

Emily & Kyle had hot chocolate and song festivities at school on Friday. Parents were invited to join in on the fun. What was most heart warming to me was how Emily and Kyle chose to sit together during it. They both have their little groups of friends at school, but it was nice to see them choose one another. 

Kids reading

Kyle & Emily have been devouring the Harry Potter series. They are currently both on book 5. The other night, we sent them upstairs to get into bed. When Jeff and I went up to tuck them in, this is what we found - both kids in Emily's bed just reading away. You may comment that Emily's not reading Harry Potter in this picture. Being the great reader that she is, she often reads multiple books at a time and so this was a school library book that she wanted to finish so she could turn it in. 

Happy Father's Day Jeff!

Happy Father's Day Jeff! You are a fabulous father and the kids are so very lucky that you are their Daddy. We started the day with a nice brunch at a local little cafe with California inspired cuisine and very Napa (of what I think of Napa despite never having been there) decor. Then Jeff took Kyle and Emily to see Epic while Aaron took a nap at home. The kids played in the alleyway for a while with Jeff (he got to relax) before dinner - grilled chicken with grilled peaches and some bananas foster for dessert. 

Last day of school

And today was Kyle and Emily's last day of 1st grade. I don't know where the time went. I'm sure I'll say that every year, but man oh man it went FAST!! They had a great teacher and a great class and learned a lot. They both made some great new friends and continued friendships with some great kids from last year as well. We were certainly very pleased with their school year this year. Congratulations on another year well done Kyle and Emily!

Music fest

Kyle and Emily had their music program at school the other night where their class performed an Irish dance.

Trick mommy morning

Apparently today was April Fool's Day in our house. Kyle and Emily plotted and plotted the night before on what they could do to fool me. It's funny seeing what they come up with and what they find funny. So this is what I came downstairs to this morning:

Camping

Kyle and Emily have been into fort building lately and carving out their own unique spaces together. They created their latest fort in Jeff's office under a table. They insisted on sleeping in there. It's a school night. Jeff said it was okay assuming they wouldn't last long. They actually fell asleep for a little bit. By 9pm they were awake again and went up to their own beds which are far more comfortable than sleeping in tight space on a pillow or two on the hard ground. Shocking.
