Happy Birthday Kyle & Emily

Time sure flies when you are having fun! Kyle and Emily are four years old today! This birthday is particularly de ja vu - just like 4 years ago, we are deep into watching World Cup soccer, which back then got us through 3 weeks of hospital bedrest. Thankfully, the final this year is 2 days after their birthday, unlike 4 years ago when it was starting the morning Kyle & Emily were born. They were kind enough to make a quick entrance and we were back in time to watch the game (we ended up sleeping through it).

Kyle was born at 8:17am and then Emily at 8:23am! It's hard to believe that was four years ago! Look at where they've come from!

Little Kyle - 4 pounds, 2 ounces and 17.25 inches long

Little Emily - 4 pounds, 7 ounces and 18 inches long

The preemie onsies that Miko and Emily's baby are wearing are what they wore when in the NICU and they were a little big on them. Just like on their Miko and baby. Pretty amazing to think they were once the size of their Miko and baby!

We didn't do a birthday party, but we celebrated with a yummy cherry monkey cake (yes, I had a monkey cake tin). And the frosting was my own creation - chocolate pudding for the darker brown; whipped cream, sugar and marscapone for the white; and the light brown is the pudding and whipped cream mix combined. It sure was tasty. And the fresh cherries baked into the cake quite delicious. This was my first kiddie cake (years past have been basic frosted cakes or cupcakes) so it was particularly fun and creative.

We went out to sushi for dinner at the kid's request. And since it is down the street, Kyle and Emily could ride their new training wheel bikes. They have been asking for training wheel bikes since they turned three and we'd often go to the bike store for one thing or another and meanwhile they would rip around on the kiddie training wheel bikes. Needless to say, they were super excited about getting their own training wheel bikes this year. Kyle loves his new helmet too, wearing it through dinner just in case the sushi gets crazy.

Stopping to smell the roses...errr to blow the dandelions
