First day of school

The kids started their 4th elementary school today (started K in Madison, then through 2nd grade in San Diego, Raleigh 3rd - 5th and now Utah for 6th). Aaron starts Kindergarten next week because apparently it's a think for K to start a week later. The first day also coincided with the eclipse. We were about 90% totality here so it didn't get quite as dark as we thought it would but was neat to witness solar / lunar history.

Kyle & Emily start 5th grade

Today is the first day of 5th grade for Kyle and Emily. In keeping with some trend not requested by us, once again in an odd grade year, they are in the same class. Preschool was always together. First grade we ended up requesting together after circumstances necessitated it. Third grade we requested separation when moving here but they were assigned together anyhow. Fifth grade they were put together again. They are both happy with their teacher so we are hoping it will still be a great year even if they didn't get the separation they would have liked.

So on the first day, we went for muffins together.

Aaron's first day of preschool

Aaron had his first day of preschool today. He is in a class with eight other 3 year olds. The first day was very difficult for him when he realized that we had to leave him there. Apparently he cried for 15 minutes. That must have been so hard for him. Other than with babysitters or family, he's never really had to separate from us. His second day, he didn't cry. His third day he only cried for a little bit and after that, he got the idea. He knows that we always come to pick him up. And he loves his teachers and friends in class. It is really good for him to have time with his peer group since he spends most of his time with 9 year olds and the kids in the neighborhood who are mostly older than him.
