Spartan Race

This weekend, we all did a Spartan race. Everyone had a ton of fun!! Aaron's course was a 1/2 mile with many fun obstacles. Kyle and Emily's race was 1 mile with the same obstacle course as Aaron's on which they did 2 laps. The kids absolutely loved it.
Aaron was smiling ear to ear the entire race. He thought it was the greatest thing ever!!

Kyle and Em were up next and they thoroughly enjoyed the race. The kids race was not nearly as muddy (well not muddy at all) as we thought it would be. Nevertheless, the race delivered.

Jeff and I also ran in the adult race. Jeff ran with his friend Arthur while I hung out with the kids. We then traded duties so I could run. Our race was nearly 5 miles and loads of awesome, difficult, messy obstacles.

First Cross Country meet

Today was Kyle and Emily's first Cross Country meet!! They run primarily against middle school teams despite the fact that many of the kids on their team are not even in middle school yet, Kyle and Emily included. Nonetheless, they are holding their own very well, running amazingly well, and out-running some older kids. And their team has been performing very well. Way to go!!

Duke

We've had a fun Labor Day / birthday weekend here. Today, we went to Duke to check out the gardens and enjoy the beautiful day. It's starting to feel a little bit like fall. Still warm, but thankfully not 100+ degrees with oppressive humidity hot. I'm sure we'll have more days of those before fall actually takes hold, but we will enjoy these days as we get them.
The chapel is finally re-opened. I think it re-opened a few months ago, but we hadn't been up there in some time. We didn't make it to the top of it today because we were short on time, but the renovations look amazing from what we've seen.

Boxer Aaron

This is so Aaron at 4. He found Emily's old sparring gear from karate and loves wearing it. He proudly wears it out in public. The kid totally rocks it!
He was wearing it to happy hour with Jeff and me, but got a little sweaty and couldn't drink his root beer with the gloves on.
He promptly put the gear back on when we returned home to have a fun little boxing match with Daddy. For the record, he will not be allowed to do any sort of real boxing, but he can certainly have fun with the gear.

First day of 4 year old preschool

Back to school time for Aaron. 4 year old class this year.

Blue house

After Lake Geneva, we headed to the blue house for a short stop before our flight that evening.

Papa played a game of checkers with Aaron.

Little Jeff and his Grandpa Irving (Papa's dad) playing checkers back in the day. (Aaron's namesake: Irving Aaron)
We finally let Kyle, Em & Aaron on iPads so they could play Terraria together for 15 minutes with their cousins. These kids are obsessed with that game and would play it non-stop if we let them. But we won't.
I think Emily & Kyle were tired :-) Aaron, not so much (he already had fallen asleep in the previous car ride from Lake Geneva to the blue house).
